This shot had all guns firing at
once. The centipede is humping away at the Baby Birthing Pod while it swings
back and forth. The Baby Birthing Pod is deforming along with the baby motion
as well as being displaced by the centipede feet. I created the Baby Birthing
Pod womb-like deformation by creating a 24 count ray_intersect gizmo with max-script.
This gizmo kind of looks like a Halo traction device that doctors use to torture
neck trauma victims. The low-res version of the Baby Birthing Pod came from
an edited sphere with radial 24 segments. At the bottom of the sphere, where
the baby comes out, the ray_intersect gizmo goes through the last 6 columns
of radial segments and runs a ray_interscet in max-script. I find where each
vertex of the Baby Birthing Pod would intersect the baby on the center. Then
I animate each vertex to that point. The end result is an baked and animated
mesh. It plays back very fast, so it was better then using multiple interations
of the "volume select>push" technique.
I then put a flex modifier on the Baby Birthing Pod to keep the verts from moving
to fast as the baby comes out. It had tendency to slam shut just at the moment
of birthing.
